EMP, what's dat ?

Detonated at a height between 150 to 300 miles above the continental U.S., one nuclear warhead or EMP could cripple the United States – knocking out electrical power and circuit boards and rendering the U.S. domestic communications impotent.

It is predicted that a single high altitude burst 200 miles above Kansas would propagate an EMP enveloping the entire United States as well as most of Canada and Mexico. Electrical systems connected to things that can conduct current like wires, antennas, and metal objects will suffer significant if not permanent damage. EMP effects on electronics include interference of radio frequency links, irreparable damage to microcircuits, and even the disabling of satellites as well as motor vehicles, trains, and planes. Just one EMP weapon could knock out America's critical electrical and technological infrastructure, effectively sending the continental U.S. back to the 19th century with a recovery time of years or decades depending upon the chaos that ensues afterwards. This is the real threat to the United States, not bio or chemical weapons, yet so little is discussed about this.

Imagine the worst case scenario of Y2K, the electrical and technological collapse of North America, and you have the same effect with one well placed EMP.

If the entire U.S. was hit by an EMP most vehicles would be permanently inoperable, no transport of food via the trucking industry, no pumping of water for the public water and waste services, no computers, no radios, no TVs, no phones. It would unravel the very fabric of society. Those scenes in the movies like "Ocean's Eleven" and their use of an EMP was grossly embellished. Power would NOT have been able to come back on. The electrical lines and wires would have been fried. Anything with a circit board would be fried.

"An electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack on the American homeland, said one of the distinguished scientists who testified at the hearing, is one of only a few ways that the United States could be defeated by its enemies – terrorist or otherwise," wrote Senator Jon Kyl, R-Ariz the Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Terrorism, Technology and Homeland Security. "And it is probably the easiest. A single Scud missile, carrying a single nuclear weapon, detonated at the appropriate altitude, would interact with the Earth's atmosphere, producing an electromagnetic pulse radiating down to the surface at the speed of light. Depending on the location and size of the blast, the effect would be to knock out already stressed power grids and other electrical systems across much or even all of the continental United States, for months if not years."

"A terrorist organization might have trouble putting a nuclear warhead 'on target' with a Scud, but it would be much easier to simply launch and detonate in the atmosphere," wrote Sen. John Kyl, R-Ariz., in the Washington Post a week ago. "No need for the risk and difficulty of trying to smuggle a nuclear weapon over the border or hit a particular city. Just launch a cheap missile from a freighter in international waters – al-Qaida is believed to own about 80 such vessels – and make sure to get it a few miles in the air."

Think about these issues. What actions would you take if these events happen? America could fall prey to such internal turmoil with just trying to survive (especially within cities) that our way of life would be permanently changed. Our infrastructure has become so dependent upon electricity and technology that without it America would self-destruct.

Upon such an attack your first decisions would be your most important ones, and to make them quick, before the rest of the population began to realize the enormity of what actually happened. To get out of your urban area before the chaos begins, with as many emergency supplies and protective equipment as possible, may most likely be your best chance of survival.

Such an event would make the United States MUCH more compliant to a police state to regain order from the chaos, while at the same time allowing the population to dwindle to controllable levels. America needs to be knocked from its superpower status before it is ready to be a part of the New World Government. What better and easier way to do this without nuclear fallout and without the vast environmental damage?
